Using its aft loading ramp and door, the Hercules aircraft can accommodate a wide variety of heavy and oversized cargo. Examples include: helicopters, fire trucks, vehicles, oversize construction equipment and bulk fuel.

Gravel and ice strip equipped, the Hercules is suitable for landing "on site" at mining and exploration locations.

First Air operates the only civilian Hercules in Canada. Service is available from our Yellowknife base, to Canada, and the world. We have worked for such agencies as:

  • Panarctic Oils - moving oil rigs in the high Arctic
  • Echo Bay Mines - supporting the Lupin Gold Mine
  • BHP - supporting NWT diamond exploration
  • Exxon - Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup
  • The International Red Cross - famine relief flights in Southwest Africa
  • The United Nations - Operation Desert Recovery during the Gulf War crisis.
  • USAF

  • Versatile aircraft suitable for large employee movements, team travel and tour programs
  • Available in full passenger, full freighter or a number of combinations in between
  • Various "combi" configurations make this a suitable aircraft for bands, orchestras or groups wanting to travel on the same plane as their equipment
  • Option of executive style leather seating and gourmet in-flight meals provides the option to customize the flight to your unique needs
  • Gravel and ice strip equipped for landing in remote locations

  • Our turboprop aircraft are extensive, and serve as charter planes for mineral exploration, scientific research, and high arctic tourism
  • Very versatile due to multiple combi configurations

The ATR 42-300 is the newest addition to our fleet. This fast, comfortable, fuel-efficient state-of-the-art aircraft is a great choice for passenger travel. This flexible combi model has the ability to carry all passenger, all freight or any combination in between. As with the HS 748, the ATR 42 is also capable of landing on gravel and ice strips.
