No delays in food shipments
December 16, 2011 – Ottawa, Ontario. First Air confirms food shipments destined for Grise Fiord are averaging 7 days from southern shipping points, with 3 days for perishable goods.
In the last six weeks, First Air has shipped over 3,200 kilograms of dry, frozen and perishable food products destined for Grise Fiord for both retail and personal orders combined. Shipments average 3.5 days for perishable items, 6 days for freezer items and 7 days for dry goods. The most recent shipment of perishable goods was delivered on Monday and freezer goods left Iqaluit today.
In response to recent media reports, Chris Ferris, Vice President, Marketing & Sales at First Air says, “First Air prioritizes perishable and frozen foods and will expedite dry goods upon request.”
First Air has confirmed that there is no food on hand in Ottawa or Iqaluit destined for Grise Fiord – all shipments have been delivered on schedule. There are no deliveries waiting to go to Grise Fiord.
“First Air is committed to our 72 hour service standard for perishables. We recognize that we are an essential service and make every effort to ensure that vital community supplies are delivered on time,” says Ferris. “If the shelves are empty in Grise Fiord, it is not due to the airline service being provided.”
First Air provides air transportation services as far as Resolute Bay. Ken Borek Air provides onward air transportation services to Grise Fiord.
